US President Joe Biden met with Israel’s caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid on the second day of his Middle East trip on Thursday.
Mr Biden and Mr Lapid were expected to announce further military cooperation and a shared commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Mr Biden reiterated his commitment to reviving the Iran nuclear deal on Wednesday, saying “the only thing worse than the Iran that exists now is an Iran with nuclear weapons”.
Earlier in the day, leaders from the UAE, US, Israel and India met online for the first I2U2 summit and planned a series of major green energy and food security projects.
Mr Biden will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday. He is then scheduled to fly to Saudi Arabia on Friday for a two-day visit to the kingdom.
The US president is expected to meet King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a senior US official said, and attend a summit of the Gulf Co-operation Council plus Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan, known as the GCC+3. He said the goal of his visit is to “strengthen” US-Saudi relations and promote regional integration.
